Widows Cooperative Programme

Widows Programme

For widows in Nigeria, the line between prosperity and poverty is very thin. One of the country's greatest social challenges is the plight of women who have lost their husbands.  With few legal rights, the death of a husband can also mean losing their homes, their children and their dignity. The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation features a programme to help widows in their struggle to remain independent and respected in society. Community-based projects offer human capacity building and skills acquisition in the production of palm kernel oil, training of hair dressers and tailors and assisting petty traders to become registered business owners. The Foundation has formed widow’s cooperatives, to allow women  to be economically self-sufficient and able to provide for their children.
